Macsen Privacy Policy

Bangor University (“we” or “us” or “our”) respects the privacy of our users (“user” or “you”). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you visit our mobile application (the “Application”). Please read this Privacy Policy carefully. IF YOU DO NOT AGREE WITH THE TERMS OF THIS PRIVACY POLICY, PLEASE DO NOT ACCESS THE APPLICATION.

We reserve the right to make changes to this Privacy Policy at any time and for any reason. We will alert you about any changes by updating the “Last updated” date of this Privacy Policy. You are encouraged to periodically review this Privacy Policy to stay informed of updates. You will be deemed to have been made aware of, will be subject to, and will be deemed to have accepted the changes in any revised Privacy Policy by your continued use of the Application after the date such revised Privacy Policy is posted.

This Privacy Policy does not apply to the third-party online/mobile store from which you install the Application or make payments, including any in-game virtual items, which may also collect and use data about you. We are not responsible for any of the data collected by any such third party.

COLLECTION OF YOUR INFORMATION

PERSONAL DATA

As you ask a question or command the Macsen app, the message is transmitted to a remote server for processing. The server will not store recordings of your voice or texts.

LOCATION DATA

Your device location is attached to each message transmitted to a remote server for processing and providing information specific to your location. For example, the weather at your present location.

In order to fullfil location dependent requests, your location may be used in calls to third-party API services.

We do not collect your location in the backgroud and we do not store your locations on remote servers. If you choose to not give Macsen permission to use your location, the app will still function, but will default to using Bangor, Wales for any location dependent requests.

USE OF YOUR INFORMATION

Your IP address is used for the sole purpose of protecting our servers from malicious DDOS by ensuring that the same IPs cannot flood our servers with multiple requests in a very short space of time and is not held indefinitely.

If you wish to help improve the Macsen app, by recording the sentences provided via the Hyfforddi (Train) tab, then your recordings will be kept and stored on the app’s remote server. In time, these recordings will be published with as a development or test set and licensed with an open source permissive license. This will mean that anyone will be able to make unrestricted use of these recordings. No personal details are collected and associated with recordings and sentences.

For the purposes of counting the number of people using the Macsen app, we count the number of downloads and updates from the Google Play Store. We do not collect user personal details.

SECURITY OF YOUR INFORMATION

We use administrative, technical, and physical security measures to help protect your personal information. While we have taken reasonable steps to secure the personal information you provide to us, please be aware that despite our efforts, no security measures are perfect or impenetrable, and no method of data transmission can be guaranteed against any interception or other type of misuse. Any information disclosed online is vulnerable to interception and misuse by unauthorized parties. Therefore, we cannot guarantee complete security if you provide personal information.
